What IS This Thing?

This is a Twitter guide.

More specifically, this is a Twitter guide that will teach you how to use the social media platform without destroying your mental health.

It's designed with Twitter users in mind.

That means it's short and to the point.

Twitter is a medium that focuses on the written word. That's why I love it.

You don't need to carve out five weekends to read this guide.

You don't even need to carve out one weekend.

This guide can be read in 30 minutes.

If you complete the exercises as well, which I hope you do because they will seriously help, then it should only take you about an hour.

Who Is This For?

  • Human beings who use Twitter

  • Anyone who already follows me and enjoys my mental-health content

  • Anyone who wants to get more out of Twitter without sacrificing their mental health

  • People currently struggling with their mental health because of Twitter or other social media platforms

  • Mental health advocates who haven't been formally trained in mental health

  • Creators

  • Educators

  • Writers

  • Kind people

  • Sensitive people (I'm a highly sensitive person myself)

  • Anyone looking to connect with others in online communities in meaningful ways

Who On Earth Created This?

I did.

My name is Jordan Brown.

I've been writing about mental health since 2016, first on Medium.com, and later on my two mental health sites, Nerve 10 and The Mental Health Update.

You can still find Nerve 10 online, but my focus is now on making The Mental Health Update website and email newsletter the most accessible and meaningful mental health information on the Internet.

I'm a trained social worker, meaning I went to grad school and got my MSW.

I've worked in all kinds of settings, from a middle school mental health program to running a federal mental health grant for the State of Montana, and from working in an inpatient mental health unit in a large city to setting up systems and seeing family and youth clients in a pediatrics practice.

But now, I guess you could say I'm an entrepreneur.

I've realized that I don't tend to love staying in big institutions and bureaucracies.

Change is too slow or never happens at all.

So, in September 2021, I decided to finally make my dream a reality and set out on my own.

I realize now that The Mental Health Update has been many, many years in the making.

Above all else, I trust my experiences and what I've learned from overcoming my own mental health struggles.

I believe that we all know our lives best--and should be trusted to make the best decisions for ourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this cost $1+?

This is the guide I wish I had years ago. No one teaches you how to use social media in healthy ways, and I think that's wrong. Also, like my mental health content, I wanted this guide to be accessible to all. So, pay what you think is fair.

How do I know this is going to work?

Define "work." What do you want out of this? Are you happy when you use social media? Then don't buy this guide. Do you want to learn how to feel better and not feel agitated and drained when you use Twitter? Then buy this guide.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

No problem. You can get your money back as long as you ask me within 30 days. Just please do me a favor and first read through the whole thing and give the simple exercises a try.

Why should I listen to you?

Hahaha, good question. I don't know why I listen to myself some days. But I think you should listen to me because I've spent a ridiculous amount of time on Twitter. I love the platform, and I've seen how powerful it can be if you use it in the right ways.

Is this going to take me a long time to learn?

No. You can read this in 30 minutes. But, like anything, you get out of it what you put in. The more time you think about the content and the exercises, and the more effort you put into applying what you learn, the sooner you'll see results.

But when will I actually see results?

Again, define what you want first. A big part of this guide will walk you through living with intention. If you don't have a clear goal for what you want, nothing can help you with that.

But there are all kinds of ways to use Twitter...

Yeah, there are. I cover the main ones in this guide. If you want to use Twitter to learn how to develop a new language that will enable you to take over the world, this guide probably isn't for you.
